Imphal, December 06 2015:
The two-day seminar on Narrative Arts of Manipur held under the aegis of the All Manipur Waree Leeba Association and Research Centre; Regional Centre for Cultural Heritage and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal from November 5 concluded today at JNM Dance Academy, Imphal.
The seminar was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The seminar had been organised with an aim to promote narrative art form in the State, All Manipur Waree Leeba Association and Research Centre secretary Wayenbam Chinglen said.
The new generations have relatively distanced itself from ancient narrative art forms like Waree Leeba, Khongjom Parba and Pena identifying the same as an outdated form of art.
The establishment of a Cultural University in the State would facilitate an academic approach to art forms and culture.
Youth aspiring to pursue cultural studies will have to undergo thorough research to understand the art forms of the State, Chinglen added.
The second day of the seminar was moderated by Professor N Tombi.
Chana Lukhoi, Dr Makhonmani Nongshaba, Dr Meikam Thoiba and Dr M Sadananda presented papers on different topics related to Manipuri culture, Pena, folklores, Wari Leeba and Lairik Thiba.
