Imphal, December 06 2015:
Pointing out that Imphal city streets are flooded every time when there is some rainfall, some citizens have suggested improving the city's drainage system as and when Imphal city is developed as a Smart City.
Aguilen Gangmei of Kakhulong said that traffic disorder should be addressed effectively in addition to looking into the chronic problems of power and potable water supply.
Historical structures and places of Imphal city should be preserved and made more significant when the city is developed as a Smart City.
He also suggested placement of greater number of dustbins along every street of Imphal city so as to ensure proper disposal of garbage and waste materials.
Retired Commerce and Industries Functional Manager Sanasam Birendra suggested development of underground parking lots as and when Imphal is developed as a Smart City.
Greater number of CCTV cameras should be installed along different streets of Imphal in order to enable law enforcing agencies pull up people who park vehicles at improper places, drive vehicles exceeding speed limits, litter waste materials etc.
When Imphal city is developed as a Smart city, Kwakeithel, Singjamei and Lamlong markets should also be developed.
To ease traffic congestion, more flyover bridges should be constructed.
Vehicles transporting students should be made to park within the campuses of their respective institutes rather than on road sides.
Moreover, meat and fish shops opened at different corners of Imphal should be allotted adequate space at proper places, Birendra added.
