Imphal, December 06 2015:
All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has vehemently condemned the brutal killing of L Poumai.
In a statement, ATSUM said that Poumai was thrown out of a speeding train by five thugs while travelling on the Dibrugarh-Bangalore Express enroute to Bangalore.
Quoting sources, the statement said that the deceased made a distress call to his family at around 4.55 pm on November 29 complaining that around five unidentified persons were threatening to kill him.
The train reached Bangalore on November 30 but Poumai was found missing.
The union expressed dismay over the continuous racial attacks against the North East people by the people of mainland India.
Condoling the demise of L Poumai, the union urged the State Government to extend physical and moral support in retrieving his mortal remains.
On the other hand, ATSUM said that it is perturbed by the amalgamation of the three tribal villages of Chandel district - Toupokpi, Tonsen and Mahou Tera - into Sugnu SDC circle under Waikhong sub-division in Thoubal district.
The State Cabinet's approval for creation of Sugnu SDC circle by amalgamating tribal villages without the consent and approval of the Hill Area Committee is a breach of Constitutional provisions, ATSUM observed.
The union would never remain as a silent spectator if the Cabinet approval is not withdrawn/revoked.
