Imphal, October 25 2018:
Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has urged the State Government to shift the Raas Leela theatre under construction inside Kangla to another site and to refrain from attempting to mix or combine any other culture into the sacred place of the Manipuris.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, KKL spokesperson Yambem Laba said that KKL had even urged the authorities concerned to shift the Raas Leela theatre from Kangla to another location but to no avail.
He alleged that as per the Government's clarification regarding the construction of the theatre, the structure was initiated by the precious Government and the present Government just continued the process.
As per it's clarification, the people perceive that the Government is basically implying that the theatre will not be just for Raas Leela but for other dance forms as well.
He reasoned that looking at the reactions from the people even before the structure is completed, it would not be far-fetched to assume that there will be a storm of backlash from the public when the theatre is completed.
Pointing out that the creation of such a structure inside Kangla is a big shock to the people, Yambem Laba urged the State Government to shift the theatre from Kangla or to keep the structure as a monument and a protected area and to refrain from organising any functions at the site.
On the other hand, he said that the attempt to implement Light and Music Show is laudable but explained that trying to mix the show with religion will lead to disappointment among the people for destroying the sanctity of the religious place.
