MLA urges weavers and artisans to take benefit of MUDRA loan

National Handloom Expo-2018 began at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboikhongnangkhong, today with the main objective of promoting the State's handloom products and providing exposure to the weavers/artisans/entrepreneurs of the State.
The National Handloom Expo organized by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicraft Artisans CS Ltd., Paona Bazar, Imphal (AWAS) and sponsored by Directorate of Textiles, Government of Manipur will conclude on November 8 this year.
Manipur Handlooms & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited Chairman S Rajen Singh, AWAS president K Indira Devi, Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles, Manipur Deputy Director (Handlooms) Ch Sukumar Sharma and Weavers' Service Centre (WSC), Porompat Asst Director (Design) C Rajasekaran graced the inaugural function of the National Handloom Expo as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking at the function, Rajen, who is also the MLA of Lamsang A/C, asserted that the Manipur Handlooms & Handicraft Development Corporation Limited as well as AWAS have been supporting the weavers and artisans of the State by organizing various handloom expos from time to time.
He said that the organization of the said handloom expos have promoted the handloom products of the State besides providing exposure to the weavers and artisans.
Conveying that National Handloom Expos were organized in Delhi and Kolkata this year as part of the endeavour to promote the handloom products of the State, the MLA also informed that effort is being made by the State Government to sell the traditional handloom products made by the local weavers through a branch of Panthoibi Emporium opened recently at Imphal.
He urged the weavers and artisans in the State to take the benefits of MUDRA loan and develop their occupation and their economy through proper utilization of the capital.
He claimed that the State Government also provides training to the weavers and artisans while reiterating that yarns have been made available in subsidized rate in the State through a Govt agent.
