Diamond jubilee celebration held

Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association celebrated its 60th foundation day at its office in Irilbung today.
The diamond jubilee celebration was attended by Art and Culture Minister L Jayantakumar, Kshetrigao AC MLA Nahakpam Indrajt and Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal Director L Upendro Sharma as dignitaries.
Thang Ta teachers including Nodiya Mangang, Haorongbam Bishwar and Kh Dhaballo Khaba, Thang-Ta artistes were felicitated during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister L Jayantakumar conveyed that Thang-Ta which has been widely recognised as an art form in Manipur was preserved by late Guru Gurumayum Gourakishore Sharma and added that Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, among other associations, has been able to continue preserving the art form till date.
He stressed on the collective effort of the artistes along with the authorities concerned and the public to uphold and help preserve the art form.
Khongjom Parba, Khunung Esei are other dying art forms which needs to be preserved, Jayantakumar added.
He conveyed that the Art and Culture Department will perish quickly if there is no art form to promote.
Kshetrigao constituency MLA N Indrajit noted the observation as necessary and important as the very art form of Thang-Ta depicts the root culture and tradition of the people, how the art form was used as a weapon by the natives to protect Manipur and added that the people should be proud in promoting the said art form.
Conveying that discipline plays a crucial role in the day to day lives of everyone in every profession, he said that the present generation should learn the discipline and good behaviour of the older generation through such art form.
