Imphal, November 14 2020:
Diabetes Patient Association of Manipur organised World Diabetes Day at their office complex today following all the COVID-19 SOPs as directed by the Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, N Leishang Singh, general secretary of the association said that the day has been celebrated as World Diabetes Day since 1991 under the aegis of International Diabetes Federation and World Health Organisation (WHO).
The search for a cure is still underway, but treatment of diabetes is a very costly affair, including the laboratory test requirements which cost a huge sum.
Beside this, while trying to control the rising sugar level in blood, there are other complications such as weakened kidney and liver, rising blood pressure, heart problem and many other related problems associated with the disease.
He also said that keeping all this in mind it is advisable for all to find out early if they have any symptoms of diabetes.
Doctors also frequently advise on the importance of controlling what one eats and do regular physical exercise.
He added that excessive eating is the biggest enemy of diabetes and eating discipline is required.
As the number of people with diabetes in Manipur is increasing day by day, he expressed the need for opening a dedicated diabetes clinic and sought Government's attention on the matter.
He also advised any person with the disease to come forth to the association.
