Locals react to arrest of rice agent by AR

Imphal, July 09 2011:
Local people of Malom Tulihal today came to the street blocking vehicles reacting against the alleged arrest of a rice agent by 27 AR and alleging him to be an activist of the proscribed UG group PLA.
Speaking to reporters in a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, S Shama mother of Soibam Nipamacha the rice agent, troops of 27 AR led by a major came to her home at around 00:30 am on July 9 and asked if Nipamacha was at home by a Manipuri.
As soon as she opened the door some troops of AR entered her home and took away Nipamacha who was sleeping at that time.
They asked him to have a discussion with them on some matter and arrested without giving any reason.
They did not give arrest memo to the family members also.
Suspecting the manner of AR, family members secretly followed the vehicles of AR at a safe distance.
When they reached Singjamei Keithel, the AR vehicle gave signal to overtake from which the family members were forced to overtake the AR vehicle.
Upon reaching Canchipur, they could not found the AR vehicle behind them and they went traceless since then.
Reacting against the incident, local people of Malom Tulihal came to the street and block Tiddim Road at around 5.30 am.
In the meantime, 27 AR handed Nipamacha to to Kakching Police Station claiming that he is a PLA cadre and they arrested him from Tezpur.
However family member said that Nipamacha is a rice agent.
He is a married man and he has two sons and one daughter.
Members of Malom Meira Paibis and Malom Tulihal Students' Union who attended the press meet demanded the safe release of Nipamacha without any condition claiming that he is not a cadre of any UG group and he does not have any sort relation with PLA.
Meanwhile, Kakching police told Hueiyen Lanpao that Nipamacha was handed over to Nambol Police.
