Jiribam, December 26 2018:
Civil society organisations of Jiribam and Meira Paibis imposed 48 hours shut down of the 50-bedded Jiribam hospital's OPD located at Uchathol from 10 in the morning followed by a sit-in-protest yesterday against the negligence of the State Government to meet the requirements at the hospital including manpower and equipment but the shut down was later called off after Health Minister L Jayantakumar assured to look in the requirements of the hospital.
The protest was staged following a resolution adopted at ameeting held at the office ofUchathol Pioneers Club (UPC) on December 24 which was attended by representatives of All Jiribam United Clubs' Association (AJUCA), Pioneer Club, Uchathol, Mangal Club Harinagar and Meira Paibis.
Speaking to media persons, AJUCA president Maipaksana Mangang conveyed that shortages and shortfalls of the hospital have been repeatedly highlighted to the authorities concerned but the needs and demands of the people as well as the CSOs have been brushed aside for too long.
Such attitude of the authorities concerned has compelled the clubs, organisations and Meira Paibis to resort to such shut down, he added.
He urged the State Government to hear the grievances of its people and fulfil the requirements of the hospital at the earliest.
It may be recalled AJUCA along with a team of media persons visited the 50-bedded hospital on October 22 and after taking stock of the situation, the association sought the State Government's attention regarding the inadequate equipment and staff, Maipaksana said.
However, no positive action has been taken up till date, he added.
