Imphal, December 26 2018:
A special general body meeting of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) held yesterday at Manipur Press Club with members of the Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) unanimously resolved to reiterate the resolutions adopted by the standing committee of the union on December 21 which condemned the detention of Kishorchandra Wangkhem under the National Security Act (NSA) by the State Government.
The special general body meeting also condemned the offensive words used by Kishorchandra in his criticism of the State Government and BJP leadership in a video posted in his Facebook account.
Taking due note of the displeasure expressed by some members of the union over certain points made by the AMWJU president in a letter sent to the Indian Journalists' Union (IJU) pertaining to Kishorchandra's arrest and subsequent detention under NSA, the meeting resolved to rectify the particular points and send another letter to IJU, superseding the earlier letter while reiterating that the mother association shall not comment on any issue relating to an affiliated unit without first seeking its views.
Taking serious note of criticising AMWJU and its leadership by some student bodies over Kishorchandra' s issue in social media, the meeting resolved to appeal to the student bodies to discuss any issue relating to AMWJU with the union rather than commenting in social media to ensure that no misunderstanding occurs in future.
The meeting also resolved to condemn the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) for boycotting local dailies except two in MU campus.
However, the meeting decided to invite MUSU leaders and members for discussion to remove any misunderstanding between the two sides, conveyed a press release issued by AMWJU publicity secretary Bishorjit Nameirakpam.
