Imphal, April 09 2021:
The JAC against polluting factories/ industries in and around Moidangpok, New Keithelmanbi and Moidangpok Khunou has cautioned of launching an agitation if the Government fails to shut down the stone crushing units, brickfields and others industrial units operating at Moidangpok, Moidangpok Khunou and New Keithelmanbi by defying Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act 2014 .
Briefing journalists at Manipur Press Club, today, secretary of the JAC, S Tombi Devi claimed that the stone crushing units at the said areas are extracting their raw material (boulders) from the reserved forest illegally.
Saying that dust emitting from these units are also harming agricultural practise as well as livelihood in the areas and the construction of these industrial units is inconveniencing the farmers as canal has been stuffed and movements restricted, she added that a bitumen mixture plant and two brickfields are also about to come up at the areas.
The situation would be aggravated once these new units start operating, continued Tombi.
Saying that the JAC had submitted a memorandum to the DC Imphal West, SDO Patsoi, Manipur Pollution Control Board and Department of Trade Commerce and Industries in this regard, she apprised that the officials/departments have not taken up any actions thus far.
She further charged that the stone crushing units are still exploiting the reserved forest demarcated by the forest department unchecked.
It is said that the JAC was formed on March 25, 2021 .
