NSUI celebrates 50th foundation day

Imphal, April 09 2021:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Govindas Konthoujam has acknowledged the role of students in putting democracy on the right track and in making the Nation stronger at the golden jubilee celebration of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) at Congress Bhavan, here, today.
NSUI - the students wing of the Indian National Congress was established on April 9, 1971 by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The observance organised by NSUI, State unit began with the MPCC president unfurling the flag of the students union.
The gatherings then paid floral tributes to the portrait of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, who founded NSUI.
As a part of the celebration, NSUI's volunteers presented pens, notebooks, face masks, and hand sanitisers to the students of Lao Radiant Higher Secondary School and inmates at Kanglatongbi Children Home.
The volunteers also reached out to the parents of late Sanaton Athokpam who was found dead at RIMS under mysterious circumstances and extended their solidarity.
On the occasion, Govindas maintained that NSUI was formed to highlight the problems being faced by the students.
Saying that students are powerful agents of social change, he urged the gathering to contribute their share in making the Nation stronger and in saving democracy.
Paraphrasing the popular idiom "Youths are the pillar of the society", the Bishnupur AC MLA asserted that their commitment is highly required to take the country to a new height.
Other leaders of NSUI and MPCC also took part in the celebration.
