CADA stages sit-in protests; Ima lups demand release of Sintha

Expressing the need for a retrial at a higher Court following the acquittal of former ADC Chairman, Lhukhosei Zou and all those involved in Phoudel drug case, the Hiyanglam Warakhong Meira Paibi Lup and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) jointly staged sit-in protest at Hiyanglam Warakhong Mayai Leikai in Kakching district, today.
Addressing media persons, Sorokhaibam Nena, president CADA Kakching District Committee alleged that the conviction of the driver and helper instead of Lhukhosei Zou reflects that there is a high possibility of serious lapses during the whole investigation process.
In order to restore the faith of the public in the judiciary, she appealed to the Government to take the case to a higher Court and award befitting punishments to those involved in the drug case.

Similarly, the Ubak Keithel Apunba Lup, Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Bishnupur and CADA Unit also staged a sit-in protest at Ningthoukhong Ubak Keithel in Bishnupur district yesterday.
Speaking to media persons, Ningthoujam Doren, vice president CADA alleged that the State Government's "War on Drugs" initiative has lost its teeth with the recent history of acquittal.
Slogans including 'do not demean war on drugs', 'award befitting punishments to drug smugglers' etc were raised at the end of the protests held at different locations.
Meanwhile, 11 Ima lup including All Manipur Women Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Thoubal Ima, AMKIL, Tammi Chingmi, THANIL, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Semgat Sagatpa Lup, Nongpok Leingak Apunba Nupi Lup, Apunba Nupi Lup,(ANUL) Bishnupur, Nongchup Imphal Palem Ima Apunba Lup (NIMPAL), Ireipak Enaat Chanura Loinasillon (ECHAL), Universal Mothers Organisation (UMO), in a statement condemned the Thoubal Police Commando for arresting Sintha Laishram, secretary general of CADA Thoubal district committee from his residence at Heirok Part III, Champrathong on April 7 .
IMA Lups further appealed to the State Government to release Sintha Laishram at the earliest.
