Kangpokpi, April 09 2021:
The Kukis in Manipur will felicitate the recognition of Kuki Rising Day as 'Restricted Holiday' tomorrow following its inclusion in the list of a State Restricted Holidays after the State Government made the official declaration on December 3, 2020 .
In connection with it, the Kuki Inpi Manipur said that they dedicate the Kuki Rising Day, now a Restricted Holiday in Manipur to the memory of 'Great Kuki Warriors' who fought to defend the freedom and their land.
Indeed it is a matter of great joy that the State Government under the capable and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, N Biren Singh has finally accorded due recognition to the saga of bravery and heroic sacrifice of the great Kuki warriors, who in defence of their land and freedom dared to raise the banner of revolt against the mighty imperial Raj, stated KIM.
Kuki Inpi continued that it is also their earnest hope that the assurance for construction of Kuki Rising Memorial Park and inclusion of the accounts of The Kuki War of Independence/Kuki Rising in the State's school syllabus (text book) would soon be translated into action as it will help them realize the spirit of patriotism and heroic deeds of their forefathers and their rare exhibition of unity, courage and sacrifice for freedom.
KIM recalled that the Kuki Uprising took place during WW-I when their forefathers refused to join the Imperial Army's Labour Corps.
The Kukis who were independent from outside interference took strong exception to the manner of imposition and refused to accept the orders and instead took up the cudgel and fought valiantly.
It further recalled that from 2017 till 2019, the Anglo-Kuki War Centenary Celebration Committee under the aegis of the Kuki Inpi Manipur commemorated the proud spirit of the great rebel chiefs and ancestors with a 3 year long commemorative programme in all the Kuki inhabited areas.
It maintained that it is lawful to remember the great Kuki Warriors who fought the invading British forces and sacrificed their lives.
Kuki Inpi Manipur further mentioned that celebration programmes would be held at different places on April 10 and that they dedicate the Kuki Rising Day, October 17 as Restricted Holiday in the memory of the 'Great Kuki Warriors' .
