Speaking on the occasion, Minister Ratankumar noted that the environmental condition of the world is in its worst condition today.
With Industrialisation, mining, deforestation and population explosion being the main causes, degradation in the environment has also threatened the survival of all the species on the earth.
The Minister maintained that observing World Environment Day once in a year is not enough, it should be observed every month or daily so as to increase awareness and environmental consciousness among the people.
He also assured that he would try his level best to install a Photo gallery for the Manipur Amateur as the exhibiting photos would be great help in generating more awareness on environmental issues.
Y Rupachandra highlighted the obstacles and hardships faced by professional photographers while taking photographs and the difficulties in organizing such exhibitions.
He also pointed out that the population of the world in 2012 is over 7 billion and by 2050 it will cross over 9 billion and this would give more pressure on our environment.
So, there is an urgent need to come up with a policy to control population as well as to address the issue of global warming.
