Environment Day at Saikul, other places

World Vision India, in partnership with Saikul Village Youth Club organised World Environment Day observance at Saikul CC Hall yesterday under the theme, 'Green Economy' where around 130 students from the surrounding five schools and neighbouring 20 villagers participated in the programme.
The main objective of the observance programme was to sensitise the youth and students on global warming and present day environment degradation.
Attending the occasion, an officer of the 43AR moyivated the students to plant more trees for sustainable green economy.
Addressing the gatherings as resource person, CDC, WVI, Saikul Cluster, Paomin sesitised the students on three global issues, global warming, global terrorism, and HIV pandemic.
Exhorting the students to plant more trees, Paomin quoted the words of former Indian President thus: "If every Indian plants two saplings each year, that becomes 2 billion trees" .
Around 500 saplings of petai (Yongchak) and 60 saplings of different flower varieties were distributed to the participants.
Each household of Saikul village, which has around 95 houses, will plant 3-4 petai saplings this year.
Meanwhile, Centre for Conservation of Nature and Cultivation of Science, (CC-NCS) conducted a study and survey of Ningthoukhong River in connection with the World Environment Day.
The programme was flagged off by M Rajen Singh, Councilor, Ningthoukhong Municipal Council.
The study on physical, chemical and biological parameters will continue till June 5 next year.
The World Environment Day was also observed by 116Bn BSF at Aimol Keirap Govt HS, Komkeirap wherein families, children, teachers, local public and personnel planted various tree saplings in school premises, surrounding area and at its THQ Loktak campus.
Tree plantation was also done at various CI Posts of the unit.
Banu Pratap Singh Chauhan, Commandant participated in tree plantation at Chingdompok HS, Heirok.
The 15 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector in association with students and representative of Primary School, Upper Khoripok planted over 100 saplings on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, informed a PRO IGAR (S) release.
