A team of Imphal East district police commando arrested two Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front (MNRF) cadres from Laipham Khunou area while conducting frisking and checking yesterday around 5pm.
According to a statement issued by the Imphal East police, the arrested MNRF cadres were identified as Sa Star Zimik (35) s/o Sa Mahaphang Zimik of Mapum village, Ukhrul district and Ashang Tangkhul (25) s/o Shimreisa Tangkhul of Nungsung village, Ukhrul district.
One photo identity card issued by ECI (No GKL0365080), one mobile handset with SIM (8974142529), and one wristwatch were recovered from Sa Star Zimik while mobile handset with two SIM (8974142240 and 9856804453) were recovered from Ashang Tangkhul, it stated.
They disclosed that they joined the outfit in February 2012 through one SS Capt Angam of the outfit and they received basic training in Burma from March 2012 to May 2012 and they have been involved in extortion of money from the general public, Government officials, businessmen under the command of Angam of the outfit, it added.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Thoubal district police commando and 42 AR arrested two NSCN (IM) cadres while conducting search operation at Pallel Bazar yesterday around 7pm.A statement of the Thoubal SP identified the two arrested cadres as Jenthaingam Longmei al alias Jon (32) s/o Lonbonlung Longmei of Mahabali Kabui Khul (presently staying at Tuisimi village and Thingbaijam Biren (52) s/o (L) Th Dinamani of Kongba Kshetri Leikai and presently staying at Pallel Bazar.
One 9mm pistol, two live rounds, two mobile handsets along with two SIMs and one Chinese hand grenade were arrested from them.
On questioning, Jenthaingam disclosed that he is an active activist of NSCN (IM) and trained at GSG, Hebron in 2008 with A No IJ 18808 and presently holding the rank of Corporal and working in Hothrong Brigade.
Biren is said to be the overground worker of NSCN (IM), it stated.
Both were arrested while intimidating truck drivers for illegal 'tax' of the outfit, the statement added.
