New Delhi, June 06 2012:
Giving a cold shoulder to PA Sangma on his bid for Rashtrapati Bhavan, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said no prominent leader from the Northeast has lent support to the NCP leader and he has never seen a person himself canvassing for the President's post.
Addressing a press conference, Gogoi said despite being a leader from Meghalaya, Sangma has not yet received support from any prominent leader from the Northeast which reflected the mood of the region for his candidature.
"Be it Congress or non-Congress, no one has lent any support to Sangma.
Even his own party is not supporting him.
So, how will he become the President.
I have never seen anyone himself canvassing for President's post," he said commenting on Sangma's prospect as a Presidential candidate.
The Assam Chief Minister said he respects Sangma as a leader but failed to understand his strategy to bid for the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
"May be he is more intelligent...," he said.
AIADMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha and BJD chief and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have backed Sangma's candidature for President's post while the former Lok Sabha Speaker, himself a tribal, has been rooting for a tribal President.
