Imphal, April 30 2009:
To prevent of illegal import of cattle, buffalo, pig and birds from Myanmar through Moreh, Behiang of Churachandpur district and Kamjong and Poi of Ukhrul district, the Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services has instructed all concerned district officers to keep vigil and check illegal import and movement of livestock and poultry birds and their products into Manipur from Myanmar.
The Directorate has also asked the district officers to submit weekly report of the disease and about any movement of livestock and poultry birds into the State for proper assessment.
Meanwhile, as precautionary measure against the possible outbreak of swine flu in Manipur, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department has sent a team to Jiribam for mass vaccination of pigs and cattle in the sub-division.
The veterinary team will also organise awareness campaigns, informed an official source.
Further another Veterinary team led by its Director will be visiting Kamjong in Ukhrul district tomorrow.
