On the occasion of Van Mahotsav, 88 Bn BSF carried out a plantation drive at Bn HQ Koirengei and the Coys deployed at CI Posts in Thoubal district.
Commandant Sham Kapoor and Radha Kapoor planted the saplings of fruit bearing trees followed by other personnel of the unit and their families.
Around 400 trees have been planted during the drive.
To mark the occasion, a symposium on the subject of 'Plantation for a Greener Future' was also organised at the Bn HQ in which various speakers expressed their views on importance of plantation.
Addressing the symposium, the Commandant expressed his concern on adverse effect of climate caused by increased emission of various poisonous gases by industries and motor transport.
He appraised the symposium to abort the risks of global warming and emphasised on need of plantation to contain it.
He said that the unit will take this plantation driver further for a better, greener earth to live and breathe on.
A large gathering of ladies and children of BSF camp, Koirengei participated in the programme with full enthusiasm.
