The scrutiny of the election to the students union of the LMS Law College could not be held today as per schedule owing to non-present of the election committee members.
The event has been strongly condemned by the students of the college.
But, the principal clarified that members have failed to turn up because of threats meted out to them by some unknowns not to carry on any activities related with election to the students union of the college.
Earlier, as schedule fixed by the election committee, students who filed nomination papers and students turned up to the college campus for attending the scrutiny, But no member of the election committee turned up for conducting the scrutiny till late.
On the developing situation, Moirangthem Laxman, Umakanta Laishram and Malem Nganba Laishram who filed their nominations with the supports of the students strongly protested stating that as per scheduled, the last date of filing nominations had expired on April 28 and scrutiny was scheduled today for the election to be held on May 4 .
On the other hand, principal of the college Ningombam Gopeshwor, in an interaction with some reporters at his home at Uripok Khumanthem Leikai said the non-holding of the scrutiny was related with the threat meted out by some miscreants.
The miscreants threatened members of the election committee not to perform at duty related with the election.
Since then, they could not proceed the scrutiny, he clarified.
He further said that miscreants have been threatening the committee members on the alleged charged of allowing filing nomination papers of some students who were rejected earlier.
Following the matter, miscreants ban on the activities of the election committee, he added.
