Lamka, April 30 2009:
A revised and enlarged edition of exclusive book on the genealogy and history of the Guite was released here as the Guite Innpi observed the 137th death anniversary of Raja Goukhothang Guite at Synod Hall today.
A prominent chief among the kindred tribes of the state during the British rule Raja Goukhothang Guite was taken captive by two Manipuri Majors under General Nathhaw while enroute to Chothe Munpi and later died of food poisoning at Imphal Jail on April 30, 1872 .
The Guite Innpi, the apex body instrumental in producing the 'Guite Khangthu Genealogy and History of the Guite' has opted for the release to coincide with the Raja, as marked of remembrance and as a tribute to one of the greatest Guite chiefs of all times.
The book compiled for over fifty years by an already ageing historian H Lianzamang Guite contains the historical details of Guite chiefs and the sub-tribes it has yielded during the course of time.
Chairman of Kipgen Innpi, Touthang Innpi and many other tribe leaders including the direct heir of Raja Goukhothang, known locally as Innpipa (father of the house) Pauminthang, chief of Lamjang also grace the occasion.
