CPI set to take up Kishorchandra case

CPI, Manipur State Council has conveyed that the party, particularly its Parliamentarians will pressure the Central Government to release Kishorchandra Wangkhem who is being detained under NSA by the State Government.
The party also informed that its executive members have raised the issue of detaining Kishorchandra among other issues from the State in its National Executive Council meeting which was held from December 19 to 21 at Vishakapatnam.
Addressing a press meet held today at Irawat Bhawan here, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that the CPI Parliamentarians will take up Kishorchandra's detention in the Parliament Session.
He went on to assert that the matter of detaining Kishorchandra by BJP-led State Government was strongly condemned and criticized by CPI members who took part in the CPI National Executive meeting where they (the members) unanimously decided to exert pressure upon the Central Government to get the journalist released.
Sotinkumar further stated that the CPI has also decided to take a leading role in mobilising a joint movement of secular and democratic like-minded political parties and public to root out BJP from the country in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Decrying that democracy and secularism in India have been constantly threatened by the authoritarian rule of BJP since the party came to power, Sotinkumar also lambasted the BJP-led NDA Government in the Centre as well as the BJP led State Governments in different States for introducing neo-liberal policy and make the poor and needy people bear the brunt of the policy.
He continued that the issues of boundary dispute and MU crisis among others were also highlighted at the National Executive meeting apart from informing the National party leaders who attended the said meeting about the CPI, Manipur State Council's decision to field M Nara as the candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
