Noney, December 23 2018:
The Rongmei Students' Organization Manipur (RSOM) has expressed their disapproval on the proposed project to built a museum in the name of tribal freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu at Makhel village in Senapati district by the State Govt without considering the sentiment of the Rongmei community and the historical implication that has prompted Govt of India to honour such a plan for Manipur, said a statement released by RSOM.
The statement further said that if Manipur is to develop to heights of world recognition, such a national level project has to be duly considered and planted at the most appropriate site taking into account the contribution of Rani Gaidinliu and other women freedom fighters.
The students' organization is deeply hurt to learn from a reliable source that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under Union Govt has conducted similar survey for museum construction at Kambiron (Puiluan), Nungba sub-division, added the statement.
As such, the Rongmei students, youth community and concerned people urged the Govt to reconsider the proposed site and set up the project in the Rongmei inhabited area which is a native of Rani Gaidinliu in the interest of the sentiments of the native people in particular and the society in general while cautioning that failure to do so on the part of the Govt would amount to creating undesirable and untoward situation in the State.
