ATSUM visits Kangpokpi, highlight woes of tribal populace

Kangpokpi, December 16 2020:
In continuation of its tour to hill districts, a team of ATSUM volunteers visited Kangpokpi district today and held a meeting with district administration headed by Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Somorjit, at the DC Conference Hall.
The meeting was also attended by Kuki Students' Organisation Sadar Hills District.
In the meeting, the visit ing team stressed on education, health facilities, forest and environment and other major aspects confronting the tribal community in the State.
The tribal student body reportedly said they found lapses in many aspects especially in the system of education and functioning of the health care system in the district like lack of infrastructures, no proper staff quarters for teachers and adequate staff strength.
Speaking to media person, Seiboi Haokip, president ATSUM appealed to the State Government to upgrade the existing district hospital to a full-fledged status with proper infrastructures and adequate staff strength.
He said the State Government had ordered the upgrade the existing Community Health Center (CHC) Kangpokpi to a full-fledged district hospital right after the creation of Kangpokpi District.
However.
till today there is no proper infrastructures, adequate stafTand still not in ;i position of district hospital standard.
The hospital is presently functioning with only 7/8 nurses of the total sanctioned staff strength.
There is no adequate ambulance service in the district hospital also, he added.
Regarding the education system in the district, the team drew the attention of the State Government to take serious steps on matters of the inadequacy of teachers posted in various schools and lack of building infrastructures.
Citing lack of inaccurate measurements of uniforms and rap do m distribution of school uniforms.
ATSUM also urged the concerned authority to immediately stop giving out of school uniform contract to firm/ agency.
ATSUM also appealed to the State Government to properly monitor various schemes undertaken under social welfare in the district.
It may be mentioned Ihiil ATSUM lull districts tour began on November 21, 2020, with Senapati being the first district visited by the team.
So far the team have visited ChandeL Tamenglong, Jiribam.
Ukhrui and Tengnoupal districts.
