Imphal, December 16 2020:
The Joint Students' Association of Rongmei, Inpui, Liangmei and Zeme communities has warned of a total shutdown along Imphal-Jiribam Highway from December 17 midnight if specialist doctors and other requisite medical equipment are not dispatched to Tamenglong District Hospital and Nungba CHC at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, convenor of the association, Daichuipao said that only one specialist doctor is being posted at the District Hospital and urged the concerned Department to send more specialist doctors sanctioned for the hospital in view of the rising need for more doctors.
While urging the Department concerned to allocate two more doctors each to Tousem PHC and Hao-chong PHC in Tamenglong district, Daichuipao also requested the State Government to upgrade Tamei PHC to a CHC at the earliest.
Nungba CHC is one of the most important health centres and strategically important as it renders emergency services in case of accidents along Imphal-Jiribam Highway or any medical cases.
There are only four doctors posted at the said CHC but none of them are specialist doctors, he said while appealing to send at least a specialist doctor.
Since Noney has been separated as a new district from Tamenglong, the Noney PHC should also be upgraded to the district hospital, he said.
Sadly, both the Noney and Tamenglong districts are in need of more specialist doctors, requisite number of x-ray and ultrasound machinges and technicians to handle the machines, he said.
The association, demanding fulfilment of these requirements, had earlier announced a bandh from November 16 last.
However, the bandh was called off after a meeting was convened in the presence of the Principal Secretary (Health), the DGP and the Health Director at Health Directorate's office.
The officials during the meeting had assured to fulfil their demands within two weeks, however contrary to the assurance, not a single doctor has arrived at the said hospital till date even an order in this regard has been issued, he said.
The association, aggrieved by the Government's apathy, is set to launch the total shutdown and impose a ban on National projects along Imphal-Jiribam Highway from December 17 midnight if the Government fails to translate their assurance into action, he said while requesting for support from various organisations towards the cause.
He also maintained that the State Government should bear responsibility for any kind of untoward incident during the shutdown.
