Ibobi granted anticipatory bail

The High Court of Manipur has granted anticipatory bail to ex-Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi in connection with the MDS scam today.
A single bench of the High Court comprising of Justice MV Muralidaran heard the anticipatory bail Ibobi filed in November.
The Court granted the anticipatory bail to Ibobi on the condition that he shall appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) when asked in connection with the investigation against him.
He may not leave the State without prior permission of the Court, said the Justice.
It may be noted that the ED is investigating an alleged money laundering case involving Manipur Development Society.
In 2019, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered cases against ex-CM O Ibobi, former Project Director of MDS Y Ningthem, former Chief Secretaries DS Poonia, PC Lawmkunga and O Nabakishore.
It was alleged that between June 30, 2009 and July 6, 2017, they had misappropriated Government funds worth Rs 332 crore out of a total amount of Rs 518 crore which were given for development projects and works in Manipur.
The CBI had raided the residences of the accused persons including Ibobi's residence and recovered huge amounts of money and demonetised currency notes.
The CBI had recovered Rs 11.47 lakh in cash and Rs 26.49 lakh in old demonetised currency from Ibobi's residence.
