Public meeting on oil exploration in Manipur held

In view of many companies attempting to exploit oil from Manipur, a public meeting on 'Oil exploration in Manipur' was held at Kakching Khunou bazar mandop, Kakching district today.
The meeting was jointly organised by Social Youth Department Organization, Kakching Khunou, Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights Manipur, Tokpaching Youth's Organization Tokpaching, People for Human Rights and Climate Change, Kakching Khunou, Tokpaching Meira Paibis.
Kakching Khunou Municipal Council Chairperson Kh Babu Singh, Kakching Khunou Government High school Headmaster (retired) Kh Tejmani Singh, All Kakching Khunou Meira Paibi Welfare Forum secretary Kh Mema Devi attended the meeting as dignitaries.
Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights member MK Saroj Khan and North East Dialogue Forum Manipur member U Jenison spoke on the advantages and disadvantages of oil exploration in the State.
North East Dialogue Forum Manipur member U Jenison stated that the meeting was organised because parts of Kakching district are included in the survey conducted by Asian Oil Field Private Limited.
Questioning the motive of the companies, the people at the meeting expressed that the decision of the company to conduct survey without making the public aware of the project is unfortunate.
It further stated that unless the company comes clean about the agenda of the project, the people will oppose any move to conduct any survey in the State.
