Imphal, June 08 2017:
Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) president NK Job has said that out of all the Government schools present in the State, those located in the hill areas are the most underprivileged and ill equipped compared to the rest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Job said that members of LNKR came across deplorable conditions of schools and educational establishments at many Liangmai populated villages in Tamenglong district, during an inspection drive from May 9 to 17 this year.
He appealed to the Education Minister to look into the issues plaguing the schools present in the hills like lack of teachers, frequent transfer of teachers before the end of academic session, presence of proxy teachers and lack of proper educational facilities and also to take up necessary steps to increase the efficiency of the UJB, Primary and Junior High School establishments present in the hill areas.
Job pointed out that volunteers of Liangmai Students' Union also came across pathetic conditions of schools in the hill districts of Senapati and Kangpokpi during a special inspection trip from May 3 to 8 and added that the Liangmai Students' Union would continue its inspection drive of the Government schools present in Liangmai populated hill areas.
"There are a total of 70 Liangmai villages in the State and the Union has come across unacceptable conditions of educational establishments in 30 of the villages till now", he said and further urged the Education Minister to put extra emphasis on the development of the said schools.
Pointing out that a joint meeting of Liangmai would be held at Oklong village, Senapati district next year, Job urged the authority concerned to complete all development works and projects under PMJSY and NEC including construction of water tanks so as to avoid any inconveniences and complications.
He also appealed to the State Government to establish anganwadi centres at Makuilong Liangmai colony and Leikhampokpi village.
