Handloom workshed inaugurated

Newly constructed work-shed of Arcus Modern Handloom and Handicraft Enterprises was today inaugurated by Commerce and Industries Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh near Nambol Maibamlotpa Ching Leimaram Lamkhai.
E-commerce platform of the enterprise was also launched.
Addressing at the inaugural function, Biswajit said that encouraging entrepreneurs will help in generating employment in the State.
The State Government's target is to provide livelihood avenues to 1.5 lakh youths every year.
Only then, peace and development will prevail in the State.
He noted that instead of seeking only Government jobs, people should have the determination to venture into entrepreneurship and generate sustainable income.
Since time immemorial, women of Manipuri have played crucial role in economic development of the State including.
Most importantly, Manipuri women have been engaging in handloom weaving activities for ages.
Apart from agriculture, handloom and handicraft are one of the sources of income for many.
Officials of the Depart mennt concerned should not discriminate in granting loans and subsidies to the beneficiaries.
Such discrimination will only demoralise artisans and young entrepreneurs, he added.
The vision of the present Government is to bridge the hill-valley gap.
Lack of development in the hills has led to conflict between the communities, he asserted.
Biswajit also said that solar power looms will be soon distributed to intended beneficiaries so as to save their time, labour and enhance productivity.
He further said that soil testing for suitability of cotton plantation will soon be conducted in Jiribam and Moreh.
For the benefit of the weavers of Manipur, Commerce and Industries Department will soon launch a servicce where the raw material will be delivered at their doorstep, he informed.
Laishram Radhakishore Singh, Chairman, Pollution Control Board and Khadi and Village Industries Board, Manipur stressed on the need to strengthen work culture among the youth.
Moirang MLA P Sarachandra Singh also spoke at length on capacity building and strengthening human resource development.
Officials of Directorate of Handloom and Handicrafts, Weavers and locals were also present at the function.
