Self defence stressed

SCERT Joint Secretary S Kholia Larho has said that in light of the rising incidents of crime against women in the country as well as in the State, it is imperative for all women to learn self defence skills and techniques in order to protect themselves.
He made the statement at the closing ceremony of the Training on Teaching of Traditional Cultural Arts (Thang-Ta) programme organised by the State Council of Education Research and Training at the conference hall of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex youth hostel, which began from June 2 .
SCERT Director Dr M Meenakumari Devi and SCERT HOO/DDO A Romel were also present at the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Kholia stressed on the importance of teaching traditional martial arts to women for self defence and stated that these techniques and arts are becoming even more crucial in today's society.
Thang-Ta teachers gave lessons on various martial arts and techniques to female students as a part of the function.
