KLA/KNO gen secy shot dead

The self styled general secretary cum commander in chief of Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen suspected to be cadres of a rival UG outfit at Thanganphai village area, under Saikul police station, Kangpokpi district at around 10.30 am today.
According to a police source, the deceased person, identified as Letkhosei Khongsai alias Timothy (40) s/o Khupun Khongsai of Lajangphai village and the general secretary/ commander in chief of KLA, was shot dead near a shop at Thanganphai village bazar area by two unidentified armed men on a two wheeler bike.
Letkhosie was buying a few things from a shop after dropping off his children at school when he was attacked.
He was shot on the chest and died on the spot.
Soon after the incident, a team of Saikul police and officers of Kangpokpi district police rushed to the spot and the body was later picked up after the inquest of the dead body and the incident site.
The body was handed over to the family members after performing necessary post mortem at RIMS morgue, it added.
The source also stated that a case has been registered at Saikul police station.
On the other hand, United Peoples' Front has strongly condemned the killing of the KLA general secretary.
A press release issued by the information and publicity secretary of UPF stated that such violent actions have no place in the society and urged all the civil society organisations and the people to condemn the act.
Several civil society organisations of Saikul including Kuki Inpi and KSO have condemned the assassination of the KLA/KNO general secretary and stressed that this kind of killing would only lead to more bloodshed in the future.
The organisations also demanded the individuals or the party responsible to clarify about the reason behind the act.
They further appealed to the people of the area to maintain peace and tranquillity.
