New Delhi, May 02 2012:
A day after Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma alleged discrimination against North-East students, more than 40 students of Delhi University, including the CM's daughter and National Students Union of India members, demonstrated outside the Amity University at Pachgaon village near Menesar on Tuesday.
They have been demanding a high level inquiry to find out what happened on April 24 when Dana, the Meghalaya CM's niece, committed suicide in her room.
The MBA student was found hanging from the ceiling fan by her dupatta.
The protesting students alleged that the attitude of the local police towards the case is callous and they are yet to examine the invigilator in question.
"If the local administration doesn't take any action against the university officials, we will organise a huge protest to demand justice for Dana Sangma," Miani Shira, a deceased student's cousin and Sangma's daughter, said.
Shira alleged that her cousin had been discriminated against and the invigilator, who allegedly caught her copying, wrote some adverse remarks against her on the answersheet.
"According to Dana's undertaking to the invigilator, she had clarified that she had not copied anything.
But the invigilator snatched away her answersheet and phone and wrote that he had found a mobile phone in her pocket.
Her mobile was returned after half and hour and then she informed her family about the humiliation in the examination hall," Shira said.
"How could she cheat in the examination when she was sitting in the first row in a class of 19 students?" she asked.
