Kangpokpi, December 01 2020:
The International Human Rights Association Manipur while strongly condemning the alleged violation of human rights in the State stated that it.
is now time to rescue the common men's rights and dignity of life.
Mark Thangmang Haokip, president, International Human Rights Association, Manipur said that the voice of human rights is not considered as important and added that many cases of human rights violation have come to light but nothing has changed.
From the beginning of the year, Chassad village in Kamjong district was burnt down by their neighbouring Sampui villagers since on March 15 following conflicts that broke out between the two villages.
At that time, the State Government acquitted the criminals who committed the crime, he alleged.
In this connection, IHRA had written a petition to the Union Home Minister to let CBI probe the matter.
The chief of Chassad was also threatened not to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the State High Court, he alleged.
As such, Manipur has failed in the eyes of universal human rights as per Article 19 & 20 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, he further alleged.
Article 19 says that everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference and everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.
Haokip further said that Article 20 says that any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law and any advocacy of national, racial, or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence shall be prohibited by law.
