Imphal, December 01 2020:
The Irabot Foundation Manipur has stated that the Directorate of Agriculture has failed to widely reach out to the State farmers with winter crop seeds which are to be sown during October-November months even as harvesting of summer crops has been completed.
It will be wasteful for both the farmers and the Directorate of Agriculture if seeds of such crops are distributed lately, said the foundation while drawing the attention of the Agriculture Minister to do the needful.
The foundation, since 2007, has been campaigning to make the State agriculturally self reliant, but the target keeps hindering as the State Agriculture Department remains uncaring and unsupportive towards securing welfare of the farmers till date, it charged.
It will be of no use if the Department distributes seeds of winter crops too lately, it said.
The foundation however extolled the initiatives of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under Horticulture Department for encouraging farmers by providing seasonal crops at the right time.
