New Delhi, April 09 2015 :
Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Francis Ngajokpa met senior officials of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways at Transport Bhawan, Parliament Street here today at 3.30 pm and discussed the matter of handing over the construction work of Maram-Peren Road to Border Road Organization (BRO) .
Francis Ngajokpa said, "Maram-Peren Road, already declared NH-129/A by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways will go a long way in benefiting both Manipur and Nagaland once the construction is completed" .
He stated that since 1991, BRO was entrusted the construction of the single lane Maram-Peren road covering a distance of 118.84 Kms and completed the road on time.
Construction of its double lane was inaugurated on December 6, 2006 by Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh at Maram Centre and is now almost completed except for a few kilometre due to new alignment at Tamphung village.
In spite of all hurdles, the BRO has done a commendable job.
On behalf of the people of the area and for sustained development, the Rural Development Minister requested the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India to review the decision of November 7, 2014 of handing over the Maram-Peren road to State PWD in view of the fact that the work was in full swing with latest machinery at the site.
He asserted that only National organisation like BRO can execute and maintain such a lengthy road.
The officials of the Ministry assured the Minister to look into the matter and a favourable action would be taken shortly considering the type of terrain, length of road, remoteness of the area, coupled with law and order problems of the State.
