Imphal, February 03 2016:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has vowed to stand for Paojel Chaoba, who recently broke the news of Head Constable Thounaojam Herojit's confession of killing Chungkham Sanjit in the State media.
The union organised a reception function to honour the scribe at Manipur Press Club today.
AMWJU president Wangkhemcha Shamjai, AMWJU advisor Ningthoukhongjam Tombiraj and Ichel Express Editor Irengbam Arun graced the function as presidium members.
In his keynote address, Manipur Press Club secretary K Sarojkumar Sharma said that the function was organised to encourage Paojel Chaoba for his courageous effort of breaking the news on July 23 Khwairamband bazar encounter case.
Saying that AMWJU would stand for the scribe regarding the matter, K Sarojkumar said that the union is deliberating on promoting investigative journalism.
Paojel Chaoba said that he did not put in much effort to break the news.
He said that meeting the source of the news was just a coincidence and it happened to him luckily.
Subsequently, the news was published after a thorough consultation with his Editor and discussion with his staff.
Although, he felt a bit insecure after breaking the news, he gained confidence and courage after the same news was carried by the State and National media one after another, Paojel Chaoba said.
The scribe also lauded the unknown photographer who took the photos of the infamous incident and handed over to Tehelka magazine.
