An imposter who collected money in the name of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has been pulled up by volunteers of the students' union.
Later, the imposter was handed over to his parents.
Speaking to media persons today at its office, AMSU president Thiyam Naresh said that on getting information about the imposter collecting money in the name of AMSU, the students' body spread its tentacle in Nambol area today.
A man identified as Paikhomba Oinam (24) of Thoubal Mayai Leikai was caught while trying to collect Rs 15,000 in the name of AMSU from the owner of Corner Caf located at Nambol Kakyai by volunteers of AMSU, Naresh said.
It came to light that Paikhomba Oinam s/o Mani Babu had collected Rs 5000 from the owner of the same restaurant couple of months back.
Not only collecting money in the name of AMSU, Paikhomba also threatened the restaurant owner of dire consequence by identifying himself as a member of PREPAK (Pro), he added.
Speaking at the press meet, Paikhomba admitted to have committed the acts while also clarifying that the money he collected from the restaurant owner was for his personal use and has no connection whatever with the students' body.
Th Naresh further cautioned the people to remain alert against such imposters in future.
He said AMSU only sought the contribution of the people in organising Observation Day and on occasions when emergency arises.
