Missing persons remain traceless

Where-abouts of seven persons, including four engineers, suspected to have been abducted on their way back from an inspection of Dolaithabi barrage yesterday, remain unknown till date even as the Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has appealed for their safe and early release.
information received here suggested that the abducted persons have been taken towards Saikul side but there is no report about their rescue till the time of filing this report.
Irrigation and Flood Control Department's Superintending Engineer Nandeibam Karunacharya (50) of Thangmeiband Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Executive Engineer Naorem Surchandra (50) of Uripok Polem Leikai, Engineers of Kolkata-based RN Sinha Constructions Limited Engineers Abojit Sinha and Debajit Sinha, contractor Sanayaima Sharma of Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak and two drivers were reportedly abducted yesterday afternoon at near Pukhao Terapur when they were returning here from the project site.
It is said that about 10 heavily armed unidentified persons, some in camouflage uniform and others in civies, waylaid and took away the seven persons, who were travelling in a hardtop Maruti Gypsy and an Ambassador car, from near Pukhao Terapur which is about 12 kilometres from the project site.
Meanwhile, Deputy CM Gaikhangam, who also holds the Home portfolio appealed through the media to release the engineers and their associates without any harm and at the earliest possible time.
Speaking to mediapersons at his office chamber this evening, Gaikhangam highlighted that the engineers and their associates had been to Dolaithabi barrage to inspect the development project.
He also expressed that had the inspection team provided prior information to the Home department or police about their proposed visit the present situation could have been averted.
