Imphal, August 02 2013 :
Pointing out that a vast area of Manipur has fallen into Myanmar on account of the faulty border fencing; Manipur People's Party (MPP) has called upon the Prime Minister of India to take up steps for immediate halt on the ongoing Indo-Myanmar border fencing process.
Talking to mediapersons after an 11-member fact finding team of party jointly led by its International Auditor N Ojit, General Secretary N Singhajit and President of its Youth Front M Ronel, which had conducted an inspection visit of the disputed Indo-Myanmar border area returned here today, N Sobhakiran, President of MPP stated that the manner in which the border fencing is being carried out clearly shows that a large portion of Manipur will be lost to Myanmar.
He pointed out that most of the wars and conflicts witnessed between two States or Nations are based mainly on border dispute.
The present warfare between Israel and Palestine is also regarding land occupation.
As compared with Israel-Palestine conflict, the situation in Manipur is much graver as the land area involved in the case is much bigger than theirs.
It is very unfortunate that the Chief Minister of Manipur who had constantly shouted that not a inch of the land of Manipur would be given away to anybody, is now remaining silent when a huge portion of the land of Manipur has fallen on the side of Myanmar as a result of the border fencing carried out by the Central Government and the Myanmar authorities.
Though the portion of the land lost to Myanmar could be of no concern to India which is a big country, yet it is a matter of big concern for Manipur which is a very small State, Sobhakiran maintained.
Quoting the report of the party's fact finding team report, Sobhakiran pointed out that as of now nine villages of Chandel district have been taken away by Myanmar in the fence construction process.
The nine villages are Govajang, Yangnoi, B Bongjang, Morphei, Nungkam, Saitang, Tatyang, Yangoupokpi and S Moljol.
So far, about 10 km of the 369 km long Indo-Myanmar border fencing works has been completed, the MPP President informed, adding that construction of the fence began from 2003-2004 .
Party spokesperson, H Nabashyamn, who was also present on the occasion, informed that the Prime Minister of India has been informed about the issue and pressed to see that not an inch of the land of Manipur is given away in the process of border fencing.
The present faulty border fencing process is being carried out according to a policy of the India Government.
It is a policy to pleased Myanmar at the cost of Manipur's land.
It is indeed an act to create hatred between Manipur and Myanmar, he charged.
He pledged that MPP with the support and cooperation of the people will launch agitation against the Centre and state Governments if the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh fails to stop the ongoing fence construction works.
