Imphal, March 21 2013:
Former President of Manipur People's Party (MPP) S Umananda has clarified that there were no cases of misusing party fund by the then General Secretary and others during his term as the President of MPP.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Umananda asserted that during his term as President of MPP, he and his associates worked for the development of the party without any desire to earn money for personal gains.
"Under my leadership, MPP spearheaded movement on many important issues of Manipur.
It had even demanded establishment of Manipur Legislative Council", Umananda said.
He observed that it is very unfortunate that an alleged case of misusing party's funds has come out in the local media even after the present President Sobhakiran had clearly stated that there is no problem as far as the funds of the party is concerned.
Umananda praised the initiative taken up by the present MPP President Sobhakiran, who has called upon all the past and present members of the party to come together and strengthen the position of the party in every sphere.
"Sobhakiran would, in all his capacity, help the party to prosper", the former MPP President expressed confidence.
Maniton, who was the former General Secretary (Organisation) of MPP, against whom the allegation of fund misuse has been leveled, was also present in the press conference.
