Imphal, March 21 2013:
With the poor people deprived of their share of benefit, the electricity being provided by the government has in reality become a boon for a handful of rich people only, Th Chaoba, President of BJP, Manipur Pradesh, has exclaimed.
In an exclusive interview with Hueiyen Lanpao, Chaoba stated that even though Chief Minister O Ibobi has time and again assured that the condition of electricity would improve in the state and the people would get sufficient power supply, the situation of power supply in the State only deteriorated day by day, and the people suffering all the more.
The introduction of pre-paid power system, though a good initiative, has become a boon for rich people only.
They are getting power supply for 24 hours and this has been possible through cut down of poor people's share of the benefit, he alleged.
The manner in which electricity is being provided clearly indicates that the power distribution system of the State has made for the rich people to enjoy adequate power at the cost of the poor people, Chaoba added.
The State BJP President further alleged that the present government of Manipur has no time to think about providing adequate power to the poor people of the State and the day would not be far when the poor people would be totally deprived of this basic need.
When asked about his comment on the statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi who has stated that the State Government suffers a deficit of Rs 9 crores every month in supplying power to the people, Chaoba retorted that the issue is whether or not the government is suffering deficit or gaining profits from supplying power to the people, the problem of power supply in the State could be solved easily if the government has a strategic policy of its own.
