Jiribam, October 11 2011:
The 120 hours Jiri bandh called by the Jiribam District Demand Committee in pursuit of its demand continue to evoke mixed response.
Although shops, Government offices and educational institutions remained shut, hundreds of goods laden vehicles heading towards Imphal from Silchar and Guwahati passed through Jiri town without any hindrance to line up between Kaiphundai and Makru along NH 37 and wait for security escorts.
Yet, bandh supporters continued burning tyres and effigies of Chief Minister O Ibobi and local MLA Th Debendra on roads in several places, reports our correspondent.
On the other hand, security arrangements have been beefed up with personnel of 22 AR, Imphal East commandos, Jiri police and 5th Manipur Rifles patrolling the streets to thwart any untoward incident.
