UNC for end to fratricidal clash

Imphal, October 11 2011: In the wake of the ambush on NSCN (IM) on October 7 by the newly set up Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) at a spot in between in Taosang village and Leishok village in Nungba sub-division of Tamenglong district, the United Naga Council (UNC) has appealed to all Naga groups to refrain from such incidents.

The ambush left five NSCN (IM) cadres and a civilian driver killed and five men of the outfit injured.

" It is our appeal to all Naga groups to refrain from such acts so that the collective future of our people can be secured with peace and harmony and to open up to the healing and fortifying movement for Naga Reconciliation," said a UNC statement issued to the press today.

At present the UNC is imposing an indefinite blockade on all National Highways to denounce the State Government's alleged attempt to create new districts after bifurcating Naga-dominated areas.

While expressing shock over the ambush on NSCN (IM) members, the UNC said at this point in time when Nagas are clamoring for reconciliation within the Naga family, such an unfortunate incident is a blot on the reconciliation process that has seen much progress and has been very encouraging.

"We extend our deeply felt condolences to the bereaved families and wish speedy recovery to those who were injured," said the UNC, which is also spearheading the ongoing campaign for an alternative administrative arrangements for the Nagas in Manipur by severing all ties with the State Government.

The UNC also thanked various Zeliangrong civil bodies, frontal organizations, the Inpui Naga Union and individuals who had taken much pain to ensure that the dead bodies are given 'an honorable farewell' for their last journey back to their respective native places and also for ensuring the safe evacuation of the injured for urgent medical treatment.

Many had condemned the incident.
