1200 BPL labourers of IE given free medical aid under health insurance scheme

Around 1200 labourers of Imphal East belonging to BPL were given the benefit of medical aid provided by the government under the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The beneficiaries of the National Health Insurance Scheme are to be given free medical assistance upto an amount of Rs 30,000/- for a year.
For the current year, upto the month of September, 1200 BPL labourers of Imphal east has benefitted from the scheme so far.
Official sources reveal that up till now an amount of Rs 97,87,600 has been spent under the health scheme.
Out of this, Rs 71,82,350 has been reimbursed by the Insurance company.
NS Gokulmani, Excutive Director, Rashtriya Swashtha Bima Yojna Society, Manipur state, the implementing agency of the health insurance scheme, while interacting with Hueiyen Lanpao said that the health insurance scheme which provides money for treatment was first introduced in the state in Imphal East in October 2010.The labourers were issued smart cards.
The smarts cards of the labourers of Imphal east expired in the month of September.
During this course of time 1200 labourers benefited from the insurance scheme.
He further said that the renewal process of the smart cards is in process.
Those labourers who have not benefitted from the scheme, will be issued smart cards after the reports of the ongoing survey on BPL arrives.
The reports are likely to reach the concern department by March 2012 .
He also said that the state cabinet had taken a decision to implement the insurance scheme statewide.
The process for the issuance of smart cards in Thoubal district will start in the last week of October.
The scheme will be taken up phase wise in the Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Bishnupur and Churchandpur and the process for issuing smart cards will be completed by March 2012 .
He further went on to say that Public Hospital, Hatta Golapati, Langol View, Raj Poly Clinic are being empanelled by the state government under the scheme.
JNIMS and all other district hospitals are also in the process of empanelling by the government.
