Imphal, December 23 2018:
Manipur Students' Association, Delhi, MSAD has alleged that police today came to "nab" its general secretary, Keinou Javed Mehdi at his residence in connection with the detention of Kishorchandra Wangkhemcha under NSA.
The police as directed by State Government visited the residence of Javed and intimidated the family members and asked details of Javed, Veewon Thokchom, MSAD president and Damudor Arambam, advisor to MSAD, said the student body in a statement.
The statement further alleged that earlier a MSAD's plan to organize a protest march in New Delhi, against the 'arbitrary' arrest of Wangkhemcha Kishorchandra, was foiled by the Delhi Police.
All the volunteers were detained even before the protest started, alleged MSAD and claimed that three days before the protest, Delhi Police came looking for the general secretary impersonating as TOI and Zee News reporters.
Terming the detention of Kishorchandra Wangkhemcha and alleged bid to nab MSAD members as 'gagging' democratic voices, it said that the 'inability' of the BJP led State Government to take criticism clearly shows its mindset.
Voicing strong concern over the detention of the former ISTV employee, MSAD appealed all concerned to stand against the detention under NSA.
"This authoritarian misuse of power and intimidation will not last long if we unite and fight back.
If we don't fight back, yesterday was Wangthoi's (Kishorchandra) turn, today is our turn and tomorrow might be your turn.
We are under an authoritarian regime where anybody can be arbitrarily arrested and killed anytime anywhere under NSA and AFSPA, if the Government does not want you," MSAD said.
"We have seen in Kishorchandra's detention under NSA and the State's inability to question the army in Gaffar's killing recently.
Nobody can poke nose into these draconian Acts imposed on us.
We are under such a state of oppression, if we don't wake up and fight back this time our next generation will judge us.
We were not born to be oppressed.
And our silence will create more violence in future," said MSAD.
MSAD will not remain silent on these issues, it said and appealed the people of the State to stay strong and 'fight back' .
