Test marketing for pottery items begins

Imphal, June 19 2014:
A 3-day Test Marketing Programme for prototypes developed during Integrated Design Project in pottery and terracotta crafts kicked-off at Naharolgi Shintha Kanglup Community Hall, Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi in Imphal East on Thursday.
The programme sponsored by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India is being hosted by the Crafts & Social Development Organisation (CSDO) .
Yaiskul constituency MLA Elangbam Chand attended the inaugural function as chief guest while retired Principal of DM College of Commerce and former Superintendent of Archaeology Dr O.Kumar Singh graced as president.
Assistant Director (H) of M & SEC, Imphal, Development of Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of textiles, T Rollee and Superintendant (H/C) of Directorate of Commerce & Industries, Government of Manipur, W Birenjit were also present on the occasion as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA E Chand noted that the demand for natural decorative items by the present generation is on the rise as people are aware about the harmful effects of such products made by machines.
Manipur is a State where skilled craftsmen produce fine ornamental items made of bamboo and water weed locally named Kouna on large scale, the MLA said.
He added the people of the State are attached to the patterned clay pots like Nungbi chaphu, Andro chaphu and Thongjao chaphu.
Chand was optimistic that if these local ornamental products are exported to other countries, it will generate huge income.
The prototypes being showcased at the programme were designed by craftswoman Ranjita Nangom.
