Imphal, January 19 2018:
Even though the State Government has been undertaking a special drive to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment in the State, the rate of Aadhaar enrolment is still very low in the hill districts.
Meanwhile Chief Minister N Biren has convened a meeting with the MLAs elected from the hill districts tomorrow to discuss the same matter.
Notwithstanding the Government's special drive, very few people came out for Aadhaar enrolment in the hill districts thereby raising a serious question on the census data of 2011.Earlier, the State Government set December 31 last year as the last date for Aadhaar enrolment and the Aadhaar enrolment drive had covered most of the 2068 census villages of the State by this time.
Even as Aadhaar enrolment camps were organised repeatedly, people did not come out in many hill villages, sources informed.
Aadhaar enrolment for the entire State has reached 83 per cent but it stands at just 37 per cent for Senapati district.
Chandel and Tamenglong fare relatively better so far with 55 per cent and 54.8 per cent respectively.
On the other hand, Aadhaar enrolment has been making good progress in the valley districts with a few of them already achieving 100 percent.
With a view to ensure that all the citizens get enrolled for Aadhaar, Aadhaar enrolment camps were opened at the State level, district level, sub-divisional level and also at village level, the sources added.
