PUMANIL remembers Puya Mei Thaba Numit

Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningshing Lup (Pumanil) observed the 284th anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba (burning of ancient scriptures) at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen today.
As part of the observance, PUMANIL volunteers visited Kangla where the ancient scriptures of the State are believed to be burnt.
Later, they returned to Iboyaima Shanglen and held a public meeting.
PUMANIL chairman Lainingba Mangi, Forest and Environment Minister I Hemochandra, ACOAM-Lup president Ksh Somorendro, National awardee H Ibotombi Khuman, KANGLAMEI president Y Leirik Leima, KIL president RK Sanahanbi, CLK chief advisor A Langdon Leima, Panthoibi Sindam Shanglen president L Dhananjoy Mangang and Manipur Pandit Loishang Pana Pandit Lai Loken graced the celebration as the functional president, special guest and guests of honour respectively.

Speaking at the occasion PUMANIL convenor Chandramani Khumancha said the most developed nations of the world takes pride in the written records left to them by their ancestors.
The reign of King Pamheiba from 1709 to 1748 was the most catastrophic period in the history of Manipur.
It was during his reign that the ancient scriptures of the land (Puyas) were destroyed, Chandramani said.
The king under the influence of Shantidas Gosai, burnt down all the Manipuri Puyas of Sanamahi religion at Kangla Uttra in 1732, October 5 (17th day of Mera), he said.
PUMANIL chairman Lainingba Mani said also spoke on the occasion.
