Awareness campaign on Govt's assistance held

An awareness campaign about 'assistance to handloom weavers under various schemes of Central and State Government' was organised by District Handlooms and Textiles, imphal West at Lamshang community hall today.
As chief guest of the event, Assistant director cum Officer in-charge of Weavers Service Centre, imphal Kommu Ravindra informed that women weaver could avail materials as well as financial benefits from the Industries Department in case one possesses the Weavers Credit Card.
Prevailing upon the weavers to acquire the Card for which specific amount of Rs 4200 would be deposited by the Government of India for a woman weaver, Ravindra also informed that any interested weaver may undergo training on weaving and related activities at the Porompat Training Centre.
Apart from training under the guidance of experts at the Centre a woman weaver can reap financial benefit to the tune of Rs 50,000 if her design/product gets selected for competition, said the Assistant Director who added that travel allowances are borne by the Industries Department if a weaver is selected for participation at handloom/handicraft fairs outside Manipur.
In his address as the functional president, Project Manager of District Handloom and Textiles, Imphal West M Rajen informed the gathering that the awareness campaign is being held with the firm objective of promoting the State's handloom sector and facilitating financial security of the women weavers.
NHDC, Manipur's Officer in-charge Y shantikumar Singh was the guest of honour of the event.
